ZAC Metz Amphithéâtre

ZAC Metz Amphithéâtre

The operation proposes a reconsideration of the archetypal French island, in favor of a fragmentation and multiplication of obliques and visual leaks towards the territory, maximizing viewpoints, connections, access to natural light, and allowing nature to penetrate the city.

The project develops as a skyline of composite volumes, both vertical and horizontal, seeking a link with the surrounding land and nature.

One of the structuring ideas of the overall strategy is to base the alignments of the urban axes on visual breakthroughs, creating visual and symbolic connections with key elements of the local territory, such as the sculpture of the 'Tremblement de Ciel', the Church of the Immaculate Conception culminating at the top of the hill in the Quartier Plantières Queuleu, but also the desire to inscribe new public spaces in the continuity of existing axes and squares, such as Rue Pierre Mendes France bordered by Place Lou-Albert Lasard.

In order to offer the required surface areas while respecting the local scale, a strategy of progressive cutting was implemented on both the North-South and East-West axes. This gradual cut, starting from the neighborhood's public spaces, creates the necessary verticality while minimizing its visual impact on the perception of the neighborhood from public spaces.
