Argenteuil
In Argenteuil, the Porte Saint-Germain/ Berges de Seine sector is both a privileged and damaged site. Rich in its natural and direct link with the flow of the Seine, it is above all a piece of city waiting for an urban vision that can affirm its identity.
Today the site is marking for its heterogeneity and the diversity of built and landscaped typologies that range from the individual house to the large industrial halls of the Dassault factory, from the private garden to the wasteland. The main challenge at the scale of the site is, therefore, to find the story that this piece of town could have told about the diversity issues (typological, programmatic and social), landscape and public space.
The resorption of the rupture between the Seine district appears as the obvious prerequisite. The interface space is occupied by a highly circulated and inhospitable road and by a strip dedicated to economic activity. The inhabited city finds itself set in the background and the Seine is only its distant horizon. Crossing then becomes as much a stake as a lever for this site transformation.
Hopefully, the urbanization of the site is recent and the underlying agricultural structure is still very noticeable in the north of the area. This frame, naturally perpendicular to the Seine since it was traced by gravitational logic, is the « already there » on which the project can most easily be constituted.
The place of November 11 is an opportunity to demonstrate the applicability of these principles. Through the work on the restoration of the Colombes bridge, we propose a new soil, which makes up the slope of the bridge to develop a linear public space able to reveal to the city its natural horizon. A new centrality will then emerge at the heart of the site, accompanied by the strong development of residential and public transport services.
