Kopster Nice Hotel

The project articulates the urban and landscaped spaces in the city of Nice.

We have found the architectural formal evidence by studying the pre-existing urban factory Niçoise, but also by articulating the metropolitan character of the site with the space structuring the Garibaldi square.

The classical southern typology of the patio is transformed here to accommodate the flows of the tram. It is an urban room linked to the infrastructure and a landscape piece that helps to reduce heat. A garden with aromatic essences and a café will accompany the flow of the city.

The project is an echo of local classical figures; it reinterprets the authentic architecture while offering new and complementary uses to a metro station. Architecture is thus at the service of the city.

The project was created around four main principles : 
1-  Obtaining a pure geometry of the volume by simplifying the programme
2 - Creating an active metropolitan base in connection with the tramway line
3 - Sculpting the volume in order to provide spaces related to existing templates 
4 - The architectural action contribues to the benefit of the city

The facade was conceived as a collection of statements of regional markers.

The resulting image is that of a pattern of curved and squared shapes, inspired by the arcades and the pre-existing colorimetry.  

The generous terraces are open to the public. They offer the possibility to contemplate the old city and they generate new uses near the tram station.

By continuing tradition and promoting a strong and contemporary identity, the hotel becomes an active hybrid landmark in Nice.
