Grillé Montorgueil
Grillé was born inside of Paris, in the very middle of the emblematic french architectural heritage. Montorgueil is one of the largest pedestrian areas in the city; located in the heart of the 2nd department, filled with shops and bars, this neighborhood has a 24h cycle – the day and night lifetimes attract full amounts of parisians and tourists.
The space, a former grocery situated at the ground floor of a Haussmannian apartment building, had to be enhanced by its new usage. Respecting and revealing heritage was the core of the design concept.
The existing façade, made out of green and beige marble, was liberated and exposed towards the street. A discreet marquise was added, in conformity with the existing color code. The original ceiling that was made of glass painted panels, as well as the ceramic floor tiles have been repainted and restored.
The two lateral walls were treated differently: one of them is covered in large slabs of green marble, resembling the existing façade, and the other one in mirrors that are used to widen and change the perception of the space while also reflecting the texture of marble surface on the opposing side.
